Supporting Economic Reintegration for Formerly Incarcerated Women in Tigania, Meru

On 17 August 2026, Yamoi Women Enterprise Initiative joined CleanStart Solutions and Ujuzi Dada for a community engagement with 70 formerly incarcerated women in Tigania, Meru County, who are rebuilding their lives as part of their rehabilitation and reintegration journey.

The engagement focused on practical skills and opportunities that can support the women as they work towards greater economic independence.

The women participated in soap-making training and explored table banking as a way of building a culture of saving, accessing group-based financial support and creating a foundation for future enterprise activities.

The sessions also created space for conversations around entrepreneurship and the possibilities available to women as they rebuild their livelihoods.

For women transitioning back into their communities, having practical skills and access to economic opportunities can be an important part of rebuilding confidence, strengthening financial independence and creating sustainable livelihoods.

Yamoi continues to support community-based approaches that connect women with practical skills, enterprise opportunities and networks that can help them move forward.

We are grateful to CleanStart Solutions and Ujuzi Dada for the collaboration and for creating space for this engagement.
